Connect MixReady to VirtualDJ

MixReady adds a finished set to VirtualDJ as a folder, Beatport, SoundCloud and TIDAL tracks included, and can put hot cues where each track mixes in and out.

Short answer. Press Add to VirtualDJ and the folder is there the next time VirtualDJ starts — or use Add to VirtualDJ and reopen it to see it now. VirtualDJ can stay open for the folder; for cue points, close it first.

Step by step

Build the set in the MixReady desktop app, with VirtualDJ chosen as the Rig.
On the set page, press Add to VirtualDJ, then Export. The folder shows the next time VirtualDJ starts. To see it now, use Add to VirtualDJ and reopen it, which closes and reopens VirtualDJ for you.
For cue points, quit VirtualDJ, then press Write on Write mix cues — hot cues. If VirtualDJ is still open, MixReady stops and asks you to quit it.

Good to know

Streaming needs VirtualDJ signed in

VirtualDJ plays each streaming track itself, so it has to be signed in to that service. MixReady can't check that for you.

Sort by the list's own order

VirtualDJ shows a folder in whatever order its browser is sorted by. Sorted by title, the set reads alphabetically until you sort by the list's own order.

A backup comes first

Before cue points go in, MixReady keeps a copy, and the very first one, Before MixReady, is kept for good. Settings → DJ software → Library backups puts one back, with VirtualDJ closed.

If a track gets no cues, the message after the write says which ones and why. The usual reason is that every pad already holds a cue — Mixed In Key's default export fills all eight. Clear a hot cue on that track in VirtualDJ, quit it, and write again; with only a few pads free, Mix in and Mix out go on first.

Questions

Does VirtualDJ need to be closed?

Not for the folder: Add to VirtualDJ works any time, and VirtualDJ shows the folder the next time it starts. Cue points, and restoring a backup, need VirtualDJ closed.

Which streaming services reach VirtualDJ?

Beatport, SoundCloud and TIDAL. VirtualDJ doesn't play Apple Music, so a set built for VirtualDJ never uses it.

Will my own cue points be overwritten?

No. MixReady only uses empty pads and only replaces cues it wrote itself.
